So as of my last ultrasound, everything is looking A-OK with Chaka. Heart, brain, kidneys, tummy, all look good. My ultrasound doctor seemed more hurried and less congenial this time around, but I DID manage to shock him when I announced that 3D image of Chaka's face looked like a cat-baby. He almost dropped the ultrasound wand, but didn't say anything other than "uh... yes... the cleft is still there." Joan and I barely listened though, we were already in giggly debate about whether or not he looked like a cat baby before, if he only recently looks like a cat because his little face is starting to get some chub on it, or if some other animal describes his face better. In hindsight, I wanted to say, "Yes doctor, the cleft is still there. We didn't really expect it to go anywhere, but thanks for pointing out the obvious for us. Might I also point out that it's OK to have a sense of humor about these things and it doesn't mean we're bad parents or that we love our baby any less than with or without a cleft."
The other thing we learned about "Little Milo" is that he's not so little! For his age, he is measuring a little short, a little tubby around the middle, and has a BIG 'OL head! Also I thought his fingers looked a bit "chubby" - it's little James for sure! Although no expecting mother is pleased by the news that her unborn child has a big head, I kinda saw this one coming - as karmic payback for what my big head did to my mother! But in the end, we're happy, because a big baby means a healthy baby!
